I can pose, therefore I compose...

The video below is something I have been composing for a while. Sometimes when I sit at the piano, I mess around and find something that sounds cool. This song was a bunch of related musical ideas written in the same key until I organized it. I don't have a name for it yet. I'm still trying to figure out what it reminds me of. I think it sounds cool and it is definately fun to play. Enjoy.

Polonaise or Mayonnaise? I like both!

+ G minor = Polonaise
Polonaise in G minor was one of the first songs I learned under Dr. Hatch. Chopin wrote it when he was only seven! For those who don't know, Chopin was one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Despite the dumb name for this era, some of the coolest music was written in this period of time. Romantic music (ewww) is very melodic and is not just lovey dovey music. Just listen to the beginning of Fantasie Impromptu (also by Chopin), but don't listen past the one minute mark because then it does start to get lovey dovey. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video.

Answering Grandpa Bastian's Challenge...

Rustles of Spring was one of my Grandpa Bastian's favorite songs. He died when I was four years old. When my mom was in high school, he promised her $100 if she could learn to play it. Though she didn't learn to play this song, it was one of her favorite songs because my grandpa loved it. I wanted to learn to play this song, so I asked my piano teacher and he said that I was good enough to learn it. So, I learned to play it in honor of my grandpa. Click on the link below and I hope you enjoy!

Show Me the Money....please?

Dear friends, family and business owners,
In just three short years, playing the piano has become a passion of mine. I started learning from a neighbor and good family friend. As I progressed, I asked my parents to help me get an appointment with Dr. David Glen Hatch, a renowned concert pianist, teacher and all around great man! Under his direction, my skills have sharpened dramatically and my love for the piano and the classics such as Chopin, Beethoven and Haydn has grown even more intense.

I know I am only thirteen years old and things change, but right now it is my dream to become a concert pianist. To that end, I choose to practice 3 hours per day playing both before and after school. I am also a straight A student in school and expect to earn my Eagle Scout award in the next several months.

Because of my hard work and determination, I am excited to announce that I have been invited to perform with other select gifted students on Dr. Hatch’s 2012 International Concert Tour in Germany and Austria this August. During this time I will be able to play for youth groups and religious and civic functions at churches, government buildings, event halls and even a castle! I will also have the opportunity to visit grave sites and homes of some of the greatest composers that have ever lived.

Regardless of what I end up doing as an occupation when I grow up, experiences like these will help me in every aspect of my life. I will be able to cite this opportunity on school and job applications and have first hand experiences in foreign lands and cultures.

I am sending this to you because you are a friend, family member or respected business owner and community contributor. As you might imagine, a trip like this does not come cheap, but the opportunity may be once in a lifetime! It is my goal to raise $4500 in order to make this trip. I don’t want to miss out on this great opportunity so any help you could give would mean so much to me!

Thank you for your support. I wish you all the best and much success and happiness in this New Year!
